Background information

Reducing your development effort for shorter times-to-market, this complete high quality car radio CD / MP3 system also keeps your bill of materials low due to high integration. The solution is based around the TEF690x single-chip car radio IC and SAA784x CD / MP3 decoder, and includes all additional hardware plus complete radio and control software.

With all audio and radio processing handled by the new solution, only a low-cost microcontroller is required for user interface functions, keeping system costs to a minimum. The software helps reduce overall complexity by solving many complex issues including tuner control with automatic alignment, RDS handling and CD processing.

Featuring complete system functionality, the new solution reduces the time and risks of bringing a new product to market. Yet it maintains complete flexibility allowing manufacturers to customize their products for different markets, performance levels and OEM customers. Set makers can easily integrate their own user-interface front-ends to maintain their individual 'look-and-feel' and numerous CD loaders can be accommodated through minor modifications.

To further simplify development, NXP supplies customers with a number of easy-to-use tools. These include a Performance Customization Tool, Automatic Alignment Tool and a CD verification tool. Customers also have access to an I2C command interface description and documentation for the UIC (User Interface Control) software. Full documentation for these tools as well as the system hardware and software is included.
