Background information

NXP Semiconductors’ groundbreaking multi-standard digital terrestrial radio solution provides superior radio reception in the car – a total system solution for in-car multi-standard AM/FM, DRM/DAB, and HD Radio broadcast reception. The solution features the first dedicated software implementations for in-car DRM and DAB reception, both fully owned and maintained by NXP.

The NXP multi-standard digital terrestrial radio solution features the PNX9525 processor with a fully software defined solution for DAB and DRM, as well as the SAF35xx family, which enables the addition of HD Radio to the same platform. The solution provides a simple upgrade path from AM/FM DSP-based car radios (based on the popular SAF77xx family), to digital DRM, DAB and HD Radio.

NXP is currently working on further integration of the Software Defined Car Radio platform while maintaining and improving in-car reception performance under hostile signal conditions.
