General description

The possibilities for sharing content are growing rapidly, with new features and connectivity technologies appearing almost daily. But as the options grow, so do the complexity and the time taken to establish networks and configure devices. NFC makes it child's play to set up wireless networks.

Background information

For instance, WLANs can be configured instantly, by simply holding a personalized MIFARE® card to the NFC (Near Field Communication) interface. What's more, Bluetooth connections can be established by touching two NFC-enabled devices together, so they automatically exchange their Bluetooth addresses and start communicating.

This greatly simplifies transferring the details of a phonelist, for example, or connecting to a hot-spot. Alternatively it could be something more exciting, like re-establishing a two-player game between handsets or enabling you and your friends to listen to the same music without any wires.

Products

NXP offers a choice of highly integrated ICs that allow you to integrate NFC functionality into your system quickly and simply. Equipped with a variety of interfaces, NFC transmission module ICs can easily be linked to other microcontrollers within the system. They fully support ISO 18092, MIFARE™ and FeliCa™ reader/writer modes.

Consumer benefits

With NFC, network set-up, choice of connectivity technology and device configuration is all done automatically and in the simplest possible way - by bringing devices together. This saves time and eliminates mistakes. So consumers can start enjoying their connected devices straight out of the box, with less stress and fewer headaches.
