Background information

Part of our PCI Express reference design portfolio, the dual hybrid PV TV solution supports simultaneous dual reception of analog and digital transmissions, offering consumers greater functionality as well as preparing them for the analog switch-off. It will also appeal to consumers wishing to enjoy digital TV-on-PC functionality now, without needing to upgrade to a new DVB-T card in the future.

The solution is based on the SAA7162, a highly integrated dual-channel TV video/audio decoder with on-chip digital IF demodulation. Using the high bandwidth of the PCI Express bus architecture, it enables you to incorporate greater functionality in your products.

The complete reference design allows simultaneous, independent reception of two channels of live TV (two digital, two analog or one of each) or baseband video capture (S-Video/CVBS). So viewers can watch one channel as they record another, or view two channels at the same time using Picture-in-Picture or split screen modes – with any combination of live pictures, previews, teletext, channel scans and electronic program guides (EPGs).

For card makers and OEMs, this reference board provides a universal broadcast video and stereo decoding solution that can simplify logistics and enable more cost-effective development of advanced, scalable products. To help achieve rapid market introduction, NXP provides all hardware and software required running on Linux as well as Windows 98/ME/2000/XP. The software drivers are compatible with Microsoft Broadcast Driver Architecture (BDA), allowing straightforward integration into applications based on DirectShow.
