Background information

This design features a single-slot PCI card for analog video decoding and capture through the PCI bus to the graphic frame buffer or directly to system memory (e.g. for time-shift recording). A mono audio signal can be captured from the line-in (stereo/mono) connector. Once captured, the mono audio signal can be forwarded via an analog audio loop-back cable to the sound card.

The SAA7130 eliminates many components by integrated worldwide analog TV decoding, three-level Macrovision copy protection detection, MPEG-2 transport stream capture, and a PCI-bus mastering interface. It also offers direct VSB/COFDM/QAM channel decoder support via the reuse of the integrated video analog-to-digital converters (ADCs).

A code base for Windows Driver Model (WDM) reduces software maintenance and helps protect the designer’s software investment. A Device Driver Kit (DDK) for the SAA7130 has a plug-and-play driver as well as capture-driver installations for all commonly used 32-bit Windows platforms.
