  • Nexperia software development kit for custom application development

Background information

Network-based ‘IP’ security cameras combine traditional still image and video capture with digital video processing and networking features. Moreover, they are more robust than their analog predecessors. IP cameras can be quickly and easily installed and provide ‘anytime, anywhere’ access to surveillance data.

Our Nexperia IP camera reference design features modular hardware, high-quality media codecs, software libraries, application examples and customization tools. It makes it easy for you to build prototypes or even production-ready products.

High-quality media processing

The PNX1502 media processor handles all media encoding (for capture or storage) and decoding (for playback or analysis). For security applications requiring sound, the processor supports a number of audio formats including G.711, G.726 and AAC. The UDA1380 audio codec provides 24-bit stereo conversion between analog and digital signals.

The reference design uses the MPEG-4 video encoding library from Alarity. This delivers high-quality, real-time encoding at resolutions up to D1. It includes highly efficient motion estimation and zero DCT coefficient prediction algorithms that significantly reduce computational complexity and power consumption. Furthermore, an optimized rate control algorithm supports a wide range of resolutions and flexible speed / quality tuning.

Easy customization

The reference design’s modular hardware enables easy prototyping. It also supports several CMOS sensors allowing you to optimize your design for high quality or low cost.

The HTTP server component lets users configure and control the camera from any authorized HTTP browser without special application software or plug-ins. The server’s user-friendly interface is easily customized for end-user, administration or configuration use.

The reference design includes source code for example applications. These examples show designers how to create unique use-cases, initialize / configure video encoding and streaming, and much more. You can quickly and easily develop new applications by modifying the examples, existing HTTP pages or CGI functions.

To further reduce time to market, the reference design comes complete with the Nexperia Software Development Kit (SDK). This lets you to develop customized security applications entirely in C / C++. The SDK is supported by a worldwide network of NXP software developers. It includes lifetime upgrades and online technical support.

The IP camera reference design is available through Alarity Corporation.
