Background information

The Nexperia STB810 IP reference platform provides an ideal solution for the rapid development of advanced IP set-top boxes and combination IP/broadcast/PVR devices. It combines the powerful PNX8550 Home Entertainment Engine (HEE) with the latest AV codecs to support advanced functionality such as video telephony, picture improvements, time-shift recording, DVD playback, storage, personal recording, network connectivity and voice-over IP. Support for high quality H.264 and WM9 video formats enables features including streaming and pay-per-view movies over ASDL.

The STB810 includes a hardware development platform, software infrastructure, key codecs and reference examples. The solution hosts the familiar Linux OS and Linux-based software environment for rapid system development, porting of popular middleware (IP/DVB/MHP) and other STB software components. A WinCE variant of the platform is also available.

It handles all digital audio/video processing on a single chip as well as offering sophisticated video scaling, de-interlacing and picture improvement features. Supporting a range of tuner front-ends, this single platform allows manufacturers to create a variety of end-products while minimizing development costs and lowering the risk of adopting new features.

The board features numerous connectivity options such as two USB 1.1 ports, a PCI bus for Ethernet, WiFi controllers and other expansion devices, and UARTs including a dedicated interface to handle smartcards. The video output is compatible with HDMI devices, enabling solutions based on the board to connect to flat panel TVs and monitors.
