Background information

With media access anywhere, any time, in mind, the STB225 fulfills several different roles in the ‘connected living’ environment. The core development kit is targeted at an IP-STB application. But with the simple addition of one of our tuner solutions, a hybrid broadcast + IP STB can readily be designed, and connected to a hard disk it becomes a PVR (Personal Video Recorder).

The STB225 can also form the basis for a home media centre, exchanging content with other devices in the home network such as client STBs, audio systems, PCs and even portable products. Alternatively, it can be configured as a low cost client, connected to a remote media server.

Leveraging the power of our latest Nexperia Multi Format Source decoder PNX8935, the STB225 combines advanced video decoding with traditional STB features and integrates key connectivity protocols such as USB2.0, SATA and Ethernet. The PNX8935 features a MIPS32 application processor running a Linux or WinCE OS, and can handle the latest HD video formats, including H264 and VC1/WM9, with ease.

Enabling rapid product development, the STB225 comes complete with a hardware development platform, software infrastructure (Linux or WinCE based) and example applications. All details of the hardware platform including gerbers and schematics are provided, allowing re-use and easy customization for a particular product.

Connectivity with today’s HD-ready displays is facilitated through our range of HDMI transmitter solutions.
