EDN's 18th Annual Innovation Awards attracted entries from many of the industry's leading semiconductor and electronics companies. In the category of Microcontrollers and Cores, our LPC2478 beat competition from Freescale, Infineon and MIPs to win Innovative Product of the Year.
The 72 MHz, 32-bit microcontroller LPC2478 with ARM7TDMI-S core features a clever bus architecture that improves performance by reducing processor load. It allows the device to handle both data and processing loads to support the integrated Ethernet, USB and LCD interfaces - together with the many other serial peripherals in the system - simultaneously.
Another benefit comes from the 512 Kbytes of flash memory and memory accelerator, enabling the system to execute instructions serially at full speed directly from flash, without having to move the code into RAM.
The architecture also includes local RAM blocks for the Ethernet MAC, USB and LCD interfaces, along with dedicated DMA controllers for the Ethernet and USB ports.
EDN Innovation Awards
The Innovation of the Year awards recognize the industry's unique, state-of-the-art electronics products. The awards carry a special significance as winners are chosen by a jury of their peers.
Finalists are selected from the initial nominated entries, after which EDN's worldwide audience of engineers and managers vote using an online ballot. EDN then combines these votes with balloting by the EDN Editorial Advisory Board and voting by EDN's editorial staff to determine the ultimate winners. Awards are presented at a ceremony during the week of the Embedded Systems Conference.
