NXP is the world leader in FM radio ICs for mobile applications, and has just raised the bar for every definition of performance with its latest product, the FM radio IC TEA5990.
The TEA5990 is the world's smallest highly-integrated FM stereo radio IC with R(B)DS functionality. It delivers better channel separation, best-in-class sensitivity, very high selectivity, and clear sound.
It wins out over competitive offerings by using a command-based interface that simplifies software development, making system integration easy and quick. That way, OEMs can drive higher attach rates for FM radio in portable devices. It's a low-cost solution that can be designed-in with complete ease.
Plus, for today's mobile consumers, the RDS functionality means it's easy to receive important announcements, including up-to-the-minute traffic updates, while listening to the radio.
The TEA5990 has a footprint of only 2.56 mm², and OEMs can use it to implement a complete radio solution - without external components - in less than 15 mm² of board space. For quick integration and flexible design-in, it supports the I²C-bus and the SPI bus (3- or 4-wire format), and a digitally controlled algorithm facilitates seamless coexistence with GSM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX.
The TEA5990 also offers better reception quality over a wide tuning range (70 to 108 MHz, including the 70-MHz China band), with Stereo Noise Canceling (SNC), along with built-in Auto Search and Store for up to 32 channels with dynamic adjacent-channel suppression.
