Campus Innovator’s Challenge winners!

NXP Campus

Design the next must-have product - that was NXP Semiconductors challenge to electronic and engineering students in mainland China. At a special ceremony in Shanghai on November 28, winners of the first NXP campus Innovator's Challenge received their design awards.

Launched in April earlier this year, the competition attracted 544 team registrations from more than 110 universities and colleges across China. All that was needed to enter our campus Innovator's Challenge competition was for students to develop an innovative idea into an application circuit board using NXP products. To help the students get started we gave a NXP's 32-bit LPC2xxx ARM microcontroller development board together with some of our recommended key interface products.

232 design proposals were submitted during the initial round. From these, 50 were selected to enter the second round and finally, on November 6, the top ten teams were chosen for a final demonstration held on November 27.

Design of a Miniature Urine Analyzer Based on Embedded System

This is a house use Miniature Urine Analyzer based on Embedded System. The high density microcontroller LPC2148 developed by NXP company is adopted. USB controller integrated inside the chips is responsible for power supplying and data transmission. The integrated ADC inside processor can acquire the analog signal output by CCD, while the SPI interface inside sets up communication bridges of touch-screen module and Ethernet module. The touch screen is used in all process of operation and it also have friendly interface during the operation. The design of photoelectric detected system not only get rid of the error caused by mechanism transmission of traditional instrument, but also reduce the size and the consume of energy.

High-performance Balance Charger for Power Li-Po Battery

A powerful Li-Po balance charger based on LPC2148 is designed in this project. Taking full advantages of ARM resources, the charger provides sound management for the battery charge-discharge function. It can support 1S to 6S Li-Po battery balance charging. Release current and voltage are adjustable for each piece of battery. The charger monitors and displays the health status, capacity, internal resistance and other information of each monomer in Real-time. It can also upload information to PC, which is easy for analysis and management. To ensure independent and reliable charging for each monomer, a six-channel Isolation DC-DC Converter System was designed independently. Humanized design facilitates the maintenance of battery and reduces security risks. It is an ideal choice for battery maintaining of the electrical equipment, model airplane and military drone.

Real-Time Positioning System for Automobiles

This system is designed to provide a means to enable the user to use a cellphone to communicate with the far-end subsystem to obtain the required information about the automobile. It operates in one of two modes: for alarm mode, the far-end sends an alarm message to the user when the automobile moves without prior permission. For normal mode, the user can send instructions to the far-end to obtain information such as position and velocity, as well as to control the operation of the automobile.

Development of Bioelectrical Impedance Analyzer

Bio-impedance technology is a noninvasive detecting method which utilize the characters of tissue (impedance/admittance) and its variation to detect human body related biomedical information. This program is aimed to develop a mini digital bio-impedance analyzer. The analyzer equips an LPC2148 MCU as its main controller, and communicate with the PC via USB connection. It parse the instruction from PC, complete the multi-frequency complex impedance measurement and upload the data to PC. These results can be applied to the analysis of human body composition such as body fat percent, body weight without fat and so on.

Wireless Automatic Meter Reading System

There are some problems existing in the traditional manual meter-reading manner, such as entering residents' house difficultly, low efficiency, making mistakes easily and so on. In order to solve these problems, a new project is brought forward, which is the Wireless Automatic Meter Reading System. Building Collector, the core part of the system, is constructed with LPC2148 and other peripherals such as RS-232, Infrared, Wireless and FRAM circuit. Community Collector, the background part of the system, consists of PC and bidirectional wireless communication modules. The Building Collector receives water meter data in fixed time or fixed amount. According to the customized protocol between the Community Collector and the Building Collector, the system implements meter reading, time checking and other functions. Collecting data without wire, multiple meter reading manners and convenient for installation and maintenance are the three main features of the system.
