“There's a lot of freedom at NXP - especially in Emerging Business. It's exciting! We may not be unique in terms of products or technology, but it's a good place to develop your career. There are plenty of opportunities to find the right environment and inspiring colleagues in the company. And the training program is excellent.
I'm involved in making LED flashes for mobile phones. I'm given a budget to work with, and I have to ensure that it brings in good returns. Management put a lot of trust in us; more responsibility is delegated to people at lower levels in the organization. That's unusual in a big multinational company like NXP.
My expertise lies in bringing new technologies to market. The last couple of years have been very exciting, with a lot happening. I find the international nature of my job fun - and challenging too. I've had many learning opportunities, dealing with people all over the world. It's not always easy; cultural differences can be a source of lack of clarity. You also have to be prepared to deal with skepticism about new ideas sometimes. We need short approval cycles - bureaucracy is de-motivating. If you really want breakthrough innovation, you need to be willing to take risks.”
