“There's a lot going on at NXP. The environment is changing all the time - with all the challenges that go along with that. Having Private Equity backing puts higher pressures on us to perform; we have to grow. But at the same time we want to grow, and our independence allows us to be more dynamic about this. I appreciate being given the opportunity to prove myself in totally different environments. I'm really able to develop myself here.
In some ways there is nothing at NXP that you wouldn't get at any other semiconductor company. But we're in a unique situation now. We're developing. What would make us stand out would be to go from being 10th to 5th worldwide. I want to be in a successful, winning company.
I'm responsible for plant management and organization. I manage 60-70 people working in the area of silicon packaging, and part of my job is long-term thinking about how we can continue to innovate in the assembly of silicon and in packaging. We're always looking for ways to do things more cleverly.
There's a high level of variety in my job. I deal with Business Lines in the US, the UK, Holland and Germany, as well as the factories in Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong and China. The nice thing about combining technical innovation with responsibility for a number of groups is that I can influence what they're doing. I enjoy my daily person-to-person interactions, seeing how people are doing. I really enjoy my job, I like the balance.”
