Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) announces and demonstrates its newest semiconductor solutions for the connected home at IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung) from August 28 through September 3, 2003 in Berlin, Germany. The focus of Philips' semiconductor division at IFA this year is on the implementation of Nexperia system solutions with an emphasis on Display, Connectivity and Storage and the respective applications in the LCD TV, DTV and DVD+RW sectors.
The Philips 'Connected Home' at IFA demonstrates how the implementation of its semiconductor solutions allows consumers throughout the world to experience the advent of consumer electronics products like LCD TV, DTV and DVD+RW as well as their shared contents. The latest solutions enable Philips' customers to move smoothly from analog to digital, wired to wireless and stand-alone to convergence. With its latest offerings based on Nexperia system solutions, Philips will demonstrate and prove that the Connected Home is not just a vision of tomorrow, but a reality that is already in place today.
At IFA 2003, Philips will debut its Nexperia PNX8550 Home Entertainment Engine a fully integrated system-on-chip (SOC) solution for hybrid LCD and digital TVs. The unveiling of this SOC reflects Philips dedication to the 'Connected Home', particularly within the growing digital TV and LCD TV markets. Next to the PNX8550 Home Entertainment Engine reference design dedicated to high-end LCD TV, Philips announces and demonstrates semiconductor solutions for mid- and low-end LCD TV: the cost-effective digital-one-chip (DOC) and scaler reference design as well as the baseline LCD TV Ultimate One Chip Third Generation (UOCIII) reference design targeting the lowest priced, highest volume segment of the LCD television market.
Our demonstrations this year at IFA highlight how committed Philips is to providing a truly connected home for the consumer at the right price point said Karsten Ottenberg, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Consumer & Multimedia. In particular our Nexperia system solutions enable our customers to introduce the latest electronic devices for the connected home in a cost-efficient way and with short time-to-market.
