Audi & NXP

Simply put, the A8 from Audi is the pinnacle of luxury and performance. So when it came time to design the new A8's electronics subsystems, only the best would do. Naturally, Audi chose to put their trust in us.

Our automotive portfolio offers best-in-class options in high performance mixed signal and standard products, including state-of-the-art technologies that make cars lighter, more fuel-efficient, and smarter. For Audi, that meant opportunities to improve safety, efficiency, and performance throughout the vehicle.

Our industry-leading CAN, LIN, SBC, and FlexRay transceivers for in-vehicle networking (IVN) make it possible to add a number of new features. Use of FlexRay, in particular, has enabled Audi to introduce new applications such as advanced driver assistance systems, adaptive cruise control, and active chassis stability systems.

Also, since NXP's IVN technologies connect numerous electronic devices using a wiring harness that consists of only a few lightweight copper wires, they help save weight, and that translates into savings on fuel consumption, too.

To ensure convenient yet secure access to the A8, Audi is using one of our advanced solutions for automotive immobilizers and keyless entry/go. We're ranked number one in this area, and were first to launch a One-Chip-Key with integrated immobilization, microcontroller, and radio transmitter.

Finally, as the world leader in car radio tuners and DSPs for car radios, we've made it easy for Audi to deliver the superb sound quality people expect from a luxury sedan like the A8.

Here are some of the NXP technologies Audi chose for the latest A8:

In-vehicle networking
  • FlexRay
  • CAN/LIN transceivers
  • System Basis Chip (SBC) transceivers
Car entertainment
  • AM/FM tuner and digital reception (DSP)
  • Audio amplifier
  • Voltage regulator
Car access and immobilization
  • Immobilizer system with AES crypto algorithm and LIN interface
  • Remote keyless entry including transponder with extended service memory
