DFN1608D-2: The flattest leadless plastic package for Schottkys with 1 A and above!

February 01, 2012

Our new family of low VF Schottky diodes is encapsulated in a new, superflat DFN1608D-2 (SOD1608) package. With a typical thickness of just 0.37 mm and outline of 1.6 x 0.8 mm, this package is the smallest on the market that is capable of carrying a current of 2 A. Usually those performance parameters are found in devices more than four times larger in size. This makes it ideal for space constrained mobile equipment such as smartphones and tablet PCs. Typical applications include battery charging, display backlighting, switched-mode power supply (SMPS) and DC to DC conversion.

Other benefits of the package include reduced PCB space and tin plated, 100% solderable side pads for easy visual inspection. It combines significant space-savings with industry leading power performance due to a huge heatsink at the package bottom.

The complete family consists of four PMEG20xx types optimized for low VF (VR = 20 V), and four PMEG40xx types for low IR (VR = 40 V). Average forward current ranges between 0.5 and 2 A.  All types are already on the market and samples can be ordered via the sample store.
