Eindhoven, the Netherlands, 22 March 2007 - NXP Semiconductors, the independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, today announced a restructuring of its back-end manufacturing operations in Cabuyao, the Philippines. The company will move its system-in-package solutions (SiPS) production line from Cabuyao to Calamba and discontinue its power amplifier and front-end-module production. Approximately 200 employees will transfer to Calamba. At the same time, approximately 400 full-time employee positions will be lost, along with a number of contractual positions. These changes will not impact the other NXP activities currently undertaken at Cabuyao.
“Continuity for customers is assured,” stated Ajit Manocha, chief manufacturing officer, NXP Semiconductors. “We are confident these measures will ensure the competitiveness and long-term viability of our operations in the Philippines.”
Manocha continued: “We are transferring as many employees from the SiPs operation in Cabuyao to Calamba as possible, and replacing contractors with full-time employees. In cases where this is not possible, we will offer a social plan to those employees affected by the move.”
In total, approximately 5,700 people work for NXP in the Philippines, 3,050 of whom are stationed in Cabuyao.
