General description

This data sheet describes the operation of the PCD5013 integrated paging decoder. It is fully compatible with other FLEXchipTM ICs including the PCD5008.

The PCD5013, also referred to as the decoder, simplifies implementation of a FLEXTM paging device, by being able to interface with several off-the-shelf paging receivers and host microcontrollers/processors. Its primary function is to process information received and demodulated from a FLEXTM radio paging channel, select messages addressed to the paging device and communicate the message information to the host.

The PCD5013 fully supports the FLEXTM protocol (version G1.9) including all roaming aspects. Motorola FLEXstackTM software, installed on the product host processor, communicates with the PCD5013 and interprets the codewords that are passed to the host.

The PCD5013 operates the paging receiver in an efficient power consumption mode and enables the host to operate in a low-power mode when monitoring a single channel for message information.
