Leading tuner technology for best-in-class performance

Recent generations of NXP’s digital IF tuners continue to expand the frontiers of front-end excellence, building on the strong tradition of MPX and L/R analog receivers. At the same time, increasing component integration reduces design complexity and cuts board space requirements. Our front-end tuner solutions offer many benefits including best-in-class radio reception, embedded IF signal processing, higher integration and lower system costs.

Key features and benefits

  • Global single- and dual-tuner AM/FM receivers
  • Addresses a range of feature and performance requirements
  • Highly integrated solutions eliminating the need for many externals
  • Easy and common tuning control (protocol) across families
  • Compatibility with analog and digital signal processors
  • Key commands same in all ICs (e.g. preset, search, check,…)
  • Front-end architectural options with embedded IF processing and tuned RF selectivity or semi-wide band input
  • Compatibility of SW and HW (pin-to-pin) design within single product family
  • Easy application for quick time-to-market

Key applications

  • Car entertainment systems
  • Multi-tuner car radios
  • Single-tuner car radios

Descriptive summary

NXP offers one of the broadest portfolios

NXP offers one of the broadest portfolios of automotive tuners for car radio applications. They include data-only receivers, L/R analog tuners and high performance front-end devices, optimized to work with our companion DSPs with leading proprietary embedded radio algorithms. This has evolved over a long history of developing leading class front-end architectures based on tuned RF selectivity to semi-wide band input with embedded IF processing

Flexibility and customer differentiation

Our tuner solutions address the most basic radio requirements, such as stand-alone AM/FM single tuners with L/R analog output to high-end systems requiring multiple receivers for phase diversity, and RDS and background scanning applications. Additional flexibility and customer differentiation is possible by combining them with our family of back-end DSPs. These are embedded with advanced radio algorithms to meet the most stringent reception requirements. The newest solutions take advantage of cutting-edge design in RF-CMOS, combining DSPs in a single chip for radio base-band processing as well as optional audio post-processing.
