Descriptive summary

OL23xx sub 1-GHz low power RF products

The NXP OL23xx RF product family consists of the transmitter OL2300, the receiver OL2311 and the transceiver OL2381.

Overview of OL23xx RF product family

All devices utilize a fully integrated Fractional-N-PLL to control the Local Oscillator, thus covering all sub 1-GHz ISM/SRD bands and supporting multi-channel operation and frequency hopping schemes. The small form factor, low power consumption and wide supply voltage range make the devices suitable for use in battery powered, handheld devices and their counter parts. Various modulations can be employed with the devices, such as OOK, ASK, FSK or GFSK like modulations. Device data rates are programmable and specified for up to 112 kcps.

Transmitter circuitry

Transmitter circuits use very efficient power amplifier that enables programmable output power for optimal performance. Up to 12 dBm of output power can be achieved with the transmitter device.

Receiver circuitry

Receiver circuit features a low IF Direct Conversion architecture, with on-chip IF filtering and programmable channel bandwidth. The on-board low-power polling timer and Signal Signature Recognition Unit effectively prevent false wakeups of the microcontroller and allow simple, fast and reliable data reception. Very high receiver sensitivity (-118 dBm ASK, -112 dBm FSK) is another highlight, with which a medium- to long-range link budget is achievable.

Wide range of applications

All devices are controlled via serial interface (SPI). The full configurability makes them suit a very wide of wireless applications, e.g. smart metering (Wireless M-Bus), building automation (KNX-RF) etc., operating in the ISM/SRD bands.
