Most elementary schools in the Philippines don‘t have computers, and fewer than 5% of elementary-school teachers have computer experience. Rudy Fuentes, an NXP employee in Cabuyao, is doing something about it. As Chairman of his Community Relations Committee, he oversees a donation program that gives computers to elementary schools.
“We are engaging with the local community,” says Rudy, “giving computer training to teachers and students to make the computers we give them even more valuable.” His team trains teachers and helps them develop educational workshops for the children.
Rudy has enlisted a number of NXP employees, from top managers to factory operators, to participate in the program. The volunteers help develop training packages, teach the children and teachers how to operate the computers, and show the teachers how to maintain them. About these. efforts, Rudy says, “we have no shortage of enthusiastic volunteers, which . is fantastic.”
