Betty Steen | Community Relations, NXP San Jose, USA

In the US, our Community Action Teams (CATs) connect our employees to non-profit and charitable organizations near our locations in Silicon Valley (California), Tempe (Arizona), and Fishkill (New York).

Through her membership in CAT, Betty Steen, an NXP employee in California, volunteers . for the Second Harvest Food Bank, a not-for-profit organization that supplies donated food to hungry people throughout America.

Betty‘s group assembled breakfast and lunch bags, augmenting the food provided by Second Harvest and leveraging our food-service vendor, Eurest, to donate non-perishable, healthy snacks. Betty staged the bagging event on campus, so she could involve more people, and encouraged volunteers to bring their kids to help out. She had dozens of volunteers, and, in the end, the group assembled more than 5,500 breakfast and lunch bags. ‘We almost had to force volunteers to stop at the end of their shifts,’ she says.

Betty continues to work on behalf of Second Harvest, with programs like ‘Share Your Lunch,’" which encourages employees to donate the value of their mid-day meal.
