The City of Vienna sponsors a program, called “ÖkoBusinessPlan Vienna” (or Eco Business Plan Vienna), that serves to show that environmental protection saves money and is good for business. The program brings external advisers to corporate sites to evaluate environmental performance and make recommendations for improvement. NXP's Sound Solution site in Vienna participated in the 2007 program and, following the auditor's suggestions, optimized the cycle time of certain production steps, thereby saving energy, and optimized their waste logistics for recycling metal, plastic, EPS (Expanded Polysterene), and wood waste. At the end of the program, Sound Solutions' environmental performance was evaluated by a city commission. The site received high marks and was honored with an award.

October, BL Sound Solutions, which has offices in Vienna and Beijing, was selected as a finalist in the 2007 competition for the EFQM Excellence Award, Europe's most prestigious award for organizational excellence. Only 18 companies from around the world were named as finalists, representing Europe's best-performing organizations. The award recognizes industry leaders with an undisputable track record of progress and results for both financial and non-financial performance. This was the first time that BL Sound Solutions took part in the EFQM assessment process. It was also the first time the EFQM assessed a site outside of Europe.
