NXP® solutions enable today’s automated external defibrillators (AEDs)—portable medical devices that can restore normal heart rhythm to patients in cardiac arrest.
AEDs feature a built-in computer that checks a victim's heart rhythm through adhesive electrodes. An MCU calculates whether defibrillation is needed, which it administers via electrical shock.
High-voltage circuits generate the charge from energy stored in a capacitor bank in the control box. This shock momentarily stuns the heart and stops all activity giving the heart an opportunity to resume.
