Heat meters determine the heat energy delivered by measuring fluid flow rate and the change in its temperature between the outflow and return flow of the system. It is typically used in industrial applications for measuring boiler output from a heater or conversely, the cooling output from a chiller unit. It is also used for district heating systems to measure the heat delivered to consumers.
A heat meter consists of a Metrology MCU (flow meter) to measure the inflow and outflow temperatures and volumetric flow of fluid through the pipe. An additional host MCU may be required to compute calculations, control the segment display and execute required communications stacks. Wired and wireless communications and anti-tamper subsystems may also be desired.
