Featured Session

Adjustment on Voltage Overshoot and Efficiency in xEV Traction Inverters

Range and reliability continue to be important topics in electric vehicle development. A major component that impacts range and reliability is the traction inverter. With the advent of high-performance, intelligent gate drivers, higher performance can be achieved without sacrificing reliability. A more recent development in the driving of power devices to achieve better performance is gate wave shaping or gate strength control. This presentation introduces Segmented Drive and Dynamic Gate Strength Control as two methods to control gate strength and empirically shows the positive impact gate strength has on voltage stress reduction (reliability) and efficiency improvement (range).
