Software support for i.MX 6 and i.MX 7 applications processors is expanding
with Microsoft Windows 10 IoT Core to add to our Linux and Android BSP
offerings.
Windows 10 IoT Core, an edition of Windows 10, is designed for building smart
things and optimized to power intelligent edge devices, such as IoT gateways,
robots or conference room controllers.
And, our i.MX 6 and i.MX 7 product portfolios are one of the most popular IoT
processor families in the industry. This planned commercial support enables
IoT developers to create high performance, power optimized and industrial
grade devices.
Ultimately, this means there is now more flexibility to design your cloud-based
systems for your hardware portfolio. This expansion of this new offering
for the i.MX 6 and i.MX 7 families is an exciting step towards creating an
operating system for all connected devices.
This collaboration with Microsoft Windows 10 IoT Core announced at Embedded
World, exemplifies the combined power of a modern Microsoft OS with our
popular family of i.MX 6 and i.MX 7 processors.
One of the key differentiators we have enabled on our i.MX 6 and i.MX 7
processors is trusted I/O. For this, we use Windows 10 IoT Core along with a
unique capability of our processor to control I/O pins through TrustZone. This
enables a level of secure operation for factory equipment or critical
infrastructure that is highly beneficial in the IoT space. This premier trust
technology is only possible today on Windows 10 IoT Core with i.MX 6 and i.MX
7.
Today NXP is excited to announce the planned commercial support for the NXP
I.MX6 and i.MX 7 product line with Windows 10 IoT Core.
Several leading hardware vendors have produced Microsoft Azure Certified for
IoT devices based on i.MX 6 with Windows 10 IoT Core enablement. These include
both System-on-module (SoM) and additional board options giving flexibility to
manufacturers interested in building devices.

Together with Microsoft, we will continue to advance our combined processor
enablement solution with Windows 10 IoT Core. A final launch timeline for
commercial availability is expected later this year.
