NXP was honored at the recent “Oscars of the Dutch Business Community”—the
King William I Awards—and won in the "large business" category against stiff competition. In a
glittering ceremony in Groningen, Her Royal Highness Queen Máxima of the
Netherlands presented the award to NXP's Netherlands country managers Jean
Schreurs and Maurice Geraets.
Why the Jury Chose NXP
The jury, which included Queen Máxima and the President of the Dutch Central
Bank, chose NXP in the large business category over the other finalists
Rituals Cosmetics and the mechatronic design house
decision was based on what the jury described as NXP's “excellent
entrepreneurship with a daring strategy that delivers a substantial
contribution to people and society where it makes a difference”.

An Important Partner in the Dutch Economy
Key criteria for the jury in making their decision were characteristics such
as courage, decisiveness, perseverance, sustainability and the promotion of
creative and innovative entrepreneurship. Accepting the award, NXP's Country
Managers Maurice Geraets and Jean Schreurs, who said of the award, “This is a
kind of oeuvre prize, a reward for
good and healthy companies that are important for the Dutch economy and national welfare".
About the King William I Award
The King William I Awards are named after the first king of the Kingdom of the
Netherlands, Willem Frederik (1772-1843), ancestor to the current King
Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima's husband. Every two years, a jury of prominent
leaders of Dutch business gathers to determine which companies (SME and Large)
are most deserving of the prestigious prize.
Talking with Her Royal Highness
Reflecting on his discussion with The Queen, Geraets said, “Queen Máxima
not only admires our great work in the Netherlands, she also values our role
in global financial inclusion,” referring to the work that NXP does in
mobile payment solutions. “She was also very interested to learn how we are enabling the transition
to a more sustainable world with our solutions for electric driving, including
electric two-wheelers in India".
Recognition of NXP Employees
“This is huge acknowledgement for all NXP employees that the jury awarded us
the prize based on our history, our focused strategy and portfolio management, as well as our innovative products and solutions, our purpose, sustainability
achievements and goals,” said Schreurs of the award. For Geraets and Schreurs, the
personal involvement of the Dutch Queen added an additional gravitas. “This
indicates that the King William I Award is taken very seriously,” Geraets
