NXP Moscow celebrated a major milestone on 9 October 2020 – its 25th anniversary. Having opened its doors in 1995, it has come a long way since then. Country Manager Sergei Somov has been connected with NXP in Russia from almost the very beginning, first as a contractor, and then joining the company as a manager in 2003. He has held his current position since 2013. During the last 25 years or so, he has seen the company gradually grow and expand. We caught up with Sergei to look back on NXP Moscow’s interesting journey.
Sergei Somov: I am very happy and proud to be part of the NXP Russia team that has proven its high level of professionalism and dedication over its history. In all areas, the team has proven its ability to deliver on challenging tasks. This makes me confident that the team has what it takes to beat any future challenges successfully and continue to add value to NXP.
SS: We have two locations, one in Zelenograd, the other in downtown Moscow. Both locations are in attractive buildings with beautiful surroundings. Zelenograd is located about 30 kilometers outside the main city. Historically it used to be one of the centers of the Russian microelectronics industry. In fact, it was set up in the 1950s as a Russian “Silicon Valley,” but with worse weather. A lot of experts moved there to start the industry, and a specialized university was founded locally to train new specialists. The university is very close to our Zelenograd facility, and most of our employees, including myself, are graduates. Our Business Development Department is located in a small office in downtown Moscow. It’s close to the city’s historical center with lot of entertainment in the vicinity, including theaters, museums, historical landmarks, concert halls, and more.
SS: We have under 100 employees, with a good balance of ages and genders.
Bright minds. Bright futures. NXP team members create breakthrough technologies that advance our world. The future starts here.
SS: In a recent internal employee survey, our employees used these key terms: friendly atmosphere, cooperation, ethics, respect, mutual support, very good colleagues/teams, high integrity, respecting national laws and traditions, human dignity, health and safety and well-coordinated teamwork. The employees also praised how the company enabled efficient business conditions to deal with COVID-19 , including a great Work From Home infrastructure.
SS: NXP is a great company that changes the world for the better and improves people’s lives by providing secure and smart products. The Moscow team has proven over the years that it is a well-integrated part of NXP’s engineering community. It feels great to work closely with top-quality professionals locally and across the globe.
SS: I’m confident that NXP Moscow will continue to grow and contribute even more to the company, so that we will have plenty of proud achievements to celebrate in 2045. We’ll throw a big party then for sure!
We Are NXP embodies, spirit and values of NXP, which is committed to advancing the world by making it safer and more connected. We pursue our ambitions through technological innovations designed to enhance the quality of life of our employees, our communities and the world at large, all the while ensuring sustainability and minimizing our impact on the environment.
