    DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE

          Freescale is pleased to announce the migration of the PowerQUICC II
          - Hip4 family to a new substrate design. This substrate allows for
          higher reflow temperatures, enabling Freescale the option to offer
          lead-free packaging for this product line.
         
          This product change notification is being issued to facilitate the
          transition of existing PowerQUICC II - Hip4 product in the
          lead-bearing package to include the new substrate.
         
          This product change notification applies to both RevB and RevC, both
          commercial and industrial temperature parts, in the 480 TGBA
          lead-bearing (ZU) package.
         
          PowerQUICC II - Hip4 product using the new substrate are pin-for-pin
          compatible with current product.
         
          This is a 90-day PCN. Customers need to qualify this product by the
          effective date of the PCN. Samples will be avaliable through the
          effective date. Example sample numbers include:

          Please note, the production part numbers will not change. After the
          effective date of the PCN, PowerQUICC II - Hip 4 (MPC8266A) in the
          lead-bearing package 480TBGA package (ZU) will ship with either the
          current substrate design or the new substrate design. Freescale can
          not guarantee the supply of the current material after the PCN has
          passed its 90 day period.
         
          Additionally, Freescale plans to increase flexibility by adding a
          second substrate vendor in Q3. Both substrates will meet the same
          Freescale electrical and mechanical specifications and perform
          equally. Qualification results can be made avaliable upon request.

    ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTIC SUMMARY

          A complete electrical characterization was performed. No
          significant differences in AC or DC parameters were observed. All
          values meet data sheet specifications with a CPK of 1.67 or
          greater.
