NXP Smart eBio: Secure Processing Module for convenient, secure and safe biometric authentication

Overview

NXP’s Secure Processing Module enables fast and secure contactless biometric authentication and can easily be integrated into standard payment card bodies. These biometric cards are only powered by the RF field of a terminal in the same way as during a normal contactless transaction, so don’t require a battery or super capacitor.

In terms of personal data security, NXP Smart eBio ensures the consumer’s fingerprint is stored and matched only within the secure element in the card. The consumer’s biometric data never leaves the secure element again, which prevents misuse by third parties. So unlike with pin codes, which could be given out to other users, a transaction is only possible when the unique biometric data matches within the card’s secure element.
