MIFARE® DESFire


The MIFARE DESFire family is based on open global standards for both RF interface and cryptographic methods. The highly secure microcontroller-based ICs main characteristics are denoted by its name DESFire – The “DES” in the name refers to the use of DES, 2K3DES, 3K3DES and AES hardware cryptographic engine for securing transmission data.

The MIFARE DESFire family consists of MIFARE DESFire EV1 and MIFARE DESFire EV2 products and is ideally suited for solution developers and system operators building reliable, interoperable and scalable contactless smart card solutions. It targets multi-application smart card solutions in identity, access, loyalty and micro-payment applications as well as in transport schemes. MIFARE DESFire fully complies with the requirements for fast and highly secure data transmission, flexible memory organization and is interoperable with existing contactless infrastructures.

MIFARE DESFire EV1

Certified with Common Criteria EAL4+ on both hardware and software implementation. It features an on-chip backup management system and mutual three pass authentication, allowing it to hold up to 28 different applications and 32 files per application.

MIFARE DESFire EV2

MIFARE DESFire EV2 (MF3D(H)x2) is the latest addition to the MIFARE DESFire product family introducing new features along with enhanced performance for best user experience. The MIFARE DESFire EV2 is Common Criteria EAL5+ security certified. It fully complies with the requirements for fast and highly secure data transmission and flexible application management. This makes it the ideal product for service providers and service operators who want to offer an easy, convenient and secure access to a wide variety of different services.
