The MSC8157 application development system (MSC8157ADS) is a complete hardware debugging and system development environment for the NXP® MSC8157/8 DSP family. The MSC8157/8 DSPs are highly integrated processors that contain six StarCore® SC3850 DSP subsystems supporting device performance up to 48 GMACs at 1 GHz and several communication and processing subsystems that can operate independent of the cores for optimal high system performance. These devices target high-bandwidth, highly computational DSP applications such as WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, 3G-LTE, and WiMAX base station applications.

The MSC8157ADS platform and its onboard resources and associated debugger allow developers to perform a variety of tasks, including:

  • Downloading and running code
  • Setting breakpoints
  • Code Profiling
  • Displaying memory and registers
  • Connecting hardware via the AMC expansion connector
  • Connecting to external CPRI , SGMII and serial RapidIO interfaces through its AMC connector

  • Multiaccelerator platform engine (MAPLE-B2) with up to 8 special-purpose processing engines dedicated to communication processing functions (uplink/downlink, equalization, Turbo/Viterbi encoding/decoding, CRC insertion) operating in parallel with the cores for dedicated support for MIMO, MMSE, IRC and ML equalization schemes, matrix operations, and other special processing algorithms
  • High-speed serial interface multiplexed support through the AMC backplane for two serial RapidIO, two SGMII, PCI Express (MSC8157 only), and up to six Common Public Radio Interfaces, each supporting up to 24 antenna inputs. The CPRI units connect internally directly to the MAPLE-B2 for seamless processing without core intervention. In addition, the ADS supports two direct SGMII and two direct CPRI connections
  • Six SC3850 DSP cores that support multiple concurrent data streams and processes
