The TEA19051BTK is a secondary side SMPS controller that supports the following protocols:
Three types of the TEA19051BTK are available: TEA19051BATK for 27.5 W applications
The TEA19051BTK variants are available in an HVSON16 package.
In combination with the TEA193x primary controller and the TEA199x secondary-side Synchronous Rectifier (SR) controller, a Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS) can be built.
The SMPS has a small form factor and ultra-high efficiency over the entire load range. This power supply has an extremely low no-load input power (< 30 mW). It meets efficiency requirements like CoC Tier-2, EuP lot 6 and DOE v6. The complete SMPS system can be built with a minimum number of external components and at low cost. The TEA19051BTK offers a flexible platform, which can be configured in the production line of the SMPS by changing MTP settings. The complete SMPS system can be built with a minimum number of external components and at low cost.
The TEA19051BTK has a high level of digital integration. It incorporates all circuits, including a charge pump to drive an external NMOS load switch directly. It also incorporates a PHY protocol engine and an integrated driver for fast output discharge. The output voltage and output current are continuously measured. They are used to drive the SMPS. An NTC pin can continuously measure the adapter temperature or the temperature in the cable/connector. Optionally, the NTC pin can also be used for other features, like supply (see Table 4). The die temperature of the TEA19051BTK is measured and protected via an internal temperature sensor.
The TEA19051BTK provides a robust charging safety. To ensure the safe operation of the SMPS, the IC incorporates all required protections. These protections cover up to 19 different failure use cases (see Section 2.3). To ensure correct operation under all conditions, all protections are implemented in hardware. So, when the microcontroller stops, the protections are still functional. The response of these protections can be programmed as latched or safe restart. Although not recommended, these protections can also be disabled individually via the settings in the non-volatile Multi-Time Programmable (MTP) memory. If an output short circuit occurs, the power dissipation from the mains input in the adapter is less than 50 mW.
For output voltage, current regulation and protection, only a single optocoupler is required in the application. The TEA19051BTK operates in CV mode with a better than 2 % voltage accuracy. In CC mode, it operates with a better than 2 % full-load current accuracy. For evaluation and verification purposes of the firmware, an external EEPROM can be connected. From the EEPROM, new firmware can be uploaded and executed.
