This second generation of automotive grade IGBT/SiC- EV power inverter control reference platform includes following changes:

  • Standard form-factor P6 HybridDrive power module conformance to ease evaluation with the onsemi VE-Trac™ and Infineon HybridPACK™ IGBT module for example or StarPower P6 modules using Cree SiC die
  • Migration from GD3100 gate driver to GD3160 allowing more efficiency and IGBT/SiC compatibility
  • Adding Etherent Interface capability with THA1100
  • Allowing higher ouptut voltage up and higher power density
  • System IP reduces system bill of materials (BOM) count by using a SW resolver embedded in the MCU eliminating the need for HW resolver

To ensure high levels of functional safety to protect the vehicle operator and systems like 1st generation, system level functional safety whitepaper, devices FMEDAs and safety runtime framework are part of the enablement kit for customers targeting ASIL C/D EV-Inverter implementation.

Functional safety consultation and safety software are optional add-on services available with the platform.

This platform provides a comprehensive foundation that has been validated and dyno tested for developing an IGBT inverter control system solution.

A complete Inverter control reference platform is available through Vepco Technologies Inc. It includes the four boards, IGBT module, DC link capacitor, bus bar, cooling plate, motor options, case and software.

Features

Enablement Kit (EV-INVERTERHDBT = IGBT Version and EV-INVERTERHD = SiC Version):

  • Contains two PCB boards and the basic software three-phase motor software to enable quick development of an in-house inverter design using the NXP inverter control solution
  • For each of the boards included in the enablement kit: hardware schematics, PCB layout and gerber files are available for download from a secured site
  • Power module (IGBT or Sic), link capacitor, busbar and cooling fixture are not included and to be provided by the customer or purchased through our partner Vepco

MCU Control Board (EV-CONTROLEVMHD):

  • This board contains four key NXP-integrated circuits, interface connector and current sensors
  • The MPC5775E is a 32-bit Power Architecture© dual-core ASIL D MCU targeted for motor control, offering performance up to 264 MHz/core, CSE security, eTPU timers, software resolver and a highly scalable solution
  • The FS65xx system basis chips (SBC) providing power to the MCU, optimizing energy consumption and providing low voltage side monitoring and protection
  • The TJA1051 transceiver for high-speed CAN applications in the automotive industry, providing the differential transmit and receive capability to the MPC5775E and a CAN protocol controller. As an alternative communication protocol, the TJA1100HNZ is an automotive Ethernet PHY chip with 100BASE-TI Single-port PHY optimized for automotive use cases is also offered
  • Interface connector is a 23-pin connector for motor control inputs
  • Three LEM current sensors are incorporated on the board providing +/- 900 Amp measurement range

Driver Control Board for Power Module (EV-POWEREVBHDBT: IGBT Version or EV-POWEREVBHD: Sic Version):

  • Boards are designed for industrial standard P6HD IGBT power module footprint, compatible with onsemi VE-Trac™ and Infineon HybridPACKTM IGBT power module, with the StarPower P6 (HybridPACK™ Drive) module populated with Cree 1200 V/600 A 13mΩ SiC MOSFET die
  • It features the GD3160 advanced single-channel gate driver for IGBTs and SiC MOSFETs
  • Integrated galvanic isolation and low on-resistance drive transistors provide high charging and discharging current, low dynamic saturation voltage and rail-to-rail gate voltage control
  • The board autonomously manages severe faults, reports faults and status via INTB pin and an SPI interface
  • Gate voltage is supplied via isolated transformers and a fly-back controller

Enablement Software (SW) which features:

  • NXP SDK with production ready SPCE/CMMI Class B and MISRA 2012 compliant Low level SDK device drivers
  • Software to allow for system configuration and basic control of a three-phase inverter for driving a permanent magnetic synchronous motor (PMSM) or induction motor
  • Special function drivers for SW resolver digital converter (RDC) for motor position detection without need for additional HW resolver and precise PWM SW implementation on eTPUs for gate driver controls
  • Inverter services middleware with function calls for controlling platform motor operations by functional application layer
  • Advanced AMMCLIB optimized software libraries for precise motor drive control
  • FreeMASTER graphical user interface for operating and monitoring the inverter platform
