Used in mobile devices, the MMA955xL intelligent motion-sensing platform is an industry first, featuring:
- Integration of a MEMS accelerometer
- A 32-bit embedded ColdFire® MCU, flash memory and a dedicated architecture to manage other sensors
- Programmable to provide freefall detection, tilt and 3-D orientation detection, tap and double tap detection, dead reckoning, shock, vibration and sudden motion detection, and power management

- MMA9551L contains gesture and motion sensor firmware
- MMA9553L contains pedometer and motion firmware
