The NXP analog product development boards provide an easy-to-use platform for evaluating NXP products. The boards support a range of analog, mixed-signal and power solutions. They incorporate monolithic integrated circuits and system-in-package devices that use proven high-volume technology. NXP products offer longer battery life, a smaller form factor, reduced component counts, lower cost, and improved performance in powering state-of-the-art systems.
This page will guide you through the process of setting up and using the SEN-SPI-BOX board.
1.1 Kit Contents/Packing List
The SEN-SPI-BOX contents include:
- One Sensor SPI Master Kit (SEN-SPI-BOX)
- One USB Type A USB cable
- One NXP MDI ribbon cable (16-pin)
- One Beagle ribbon cable (10-pin)
- One debug cable
- One 8 GB microSD card
- One microSD to PC adapter
1.2 Additional Hardware
The SEN-SPI-BOX kit can be coupled with SEN-GEN6-SKT.
The following figure shows how to couple the SEN-SPI-BOX with a SEN-GEN6-SKT board for the FXLS9xxxx evaluation.
1.3 System Requirements
NXP Sensor FFV Tool software is compatible with Window-based computer. Win10 (x86, x64) is recommended. Older version of Window Microsoft OS could work but have not been tested and are not supported.

2.1 Board Description
The NXP SEN-SPI-BOX kit provides a full-solution of built-in functionalities to communicate with any SPI/I2C sensor. The kit graphs real-time data, executes custom scripts, and verifies sensor status. The NXP FFV tool which works with the SEN-SPIBOX can graph real-time data, execute custom scripts, and verify sensor status.
The software currently supports FXLS90xxx, FXLS93xxx, FXLS8962, MMA69xx, MMA65xx, MMA68xx NXP automotive sensors.
2.2 Board Features
- Board based on an NXP Cortex M4 microcontroller (M4MK64FN1M0VLQ12)
- USB connectivity to communicate with any Win10 based machine
- Built-in SD Card boot loader to allow firmware upgrades
- Two separate terminals to connect any sensor board using a ribbon cable or the debug cable included in the kit
- Supports 3.3 V and 5.0 V sensors
- Auxiliary output supplies: 10.5 V, 13.5 V
- SPI interface, up to 12 MHz, supports 8, 16, 24, and 32-bit transfers
- I2C interface: up to 1 MHz
2.2 Board Components

The kit contains an NXP SEN-SPI-BOX evaluation board, three different cables compatible with dedicated NXP sensor boards, a microSD card for built-in boot loading capability, and a USB Type-B cable to connect the kit to a computer.
The kit is powered by an NXP Kinetis® K64F Cortex M4 Microcontroller.
Install Software
Go to SEN-SPI-BOX: Evaluation tool for Automotive Sensors and download the software.
Double-click the downloaded .msi file and follow the instructions.
Use the Hardware
- Connect the FFV kit via the USB Type-B cable included in the kit.
- Launch the software.
- Select a predefined sensor package.
- After the software detects the kit, enable and select the voltage for the power supplies as needed.
- Connect the sensor board to the SEN-SPI-BOX kit using a ribbon cable (NXP MDI or Beagle terminal) or the debug cable.
- In the Sensor First Field Verification Tool window, click Scan.
- Click Select to confirm the sensor selection from the device list.
- Play the demo.
