Join our teamFor access applications requiring advanced flow-based traffic management ranging from 4Kbits/second up to 3 Gigabits/second, the Q-3 Traffic Management Coprocessor (TMC) provides ATM TM 4.1 and IETF Diffserv-compliant policing, shaping, monitoring, and scheduling of ATM, IP, or mixed protocol traffic, up to 64k flows or connections. The Q-3 TMC can support up to 4096 virtual channels that can be rate limited to conform to a particular downstream link bandwidth such as an xDSL link or have minimum bandwidth guarantees with weighted fair sharing on the excess bandwidth available at the virtual port or interface.
The Q-3 TMC can be deployed in a wide range of networking systems such as VPN access devices, multiservice access platforms, broadband aggregation devices, wireless infrastructure devices, and internet access routers.
Archived content is no longer updated and is made available for historical reference only.
The Q-3 TMC is designed as a look-aside traffic manager, which enables you to provide both ingress and egress traffic management with only one TMC in your design. Instead of passing payload through a TMC as in pipelined architectures, the Q-3 TMC passes control information and descriptors back and forth to a network processor or ASIC. It only requires external classification and payload buffering to be able to implement a comprehensive QoS solution. The Q-3 NP connects to a network processor or ASIC through its 100 MHz, straight-forward Traffic Management Interface (TMI). In particular, the Q-3 TMC makes an ideal traffic manager companion to Our C-3e and C-5®e Network Processors.
The Q-3 TMC provides robust scheduling to ensure the service level agreement for priority, fairness, and data rate are met. You can implement up to a three-level scheduling hierarchy, and configure the schedulers at any level with a selection of algorithms to perform integrated shaping/scheduling on different traffic types with varying requirements. The scheduling hierarchy supports priority and multi-protocol (IP, ATM, Frame Relay, MPLS, or mixture) fair scheduling and shaping algorithms.
QoS configurations, such as active queue management, policing and shaping, statistics collection parameters, and scheduling of flows, can be configured using QoS Applications Programming Interfaces (APIs). These APIs also make it possible to modify QoS configurations for real-time service provisioning and reprovisioning.
