S32M Integrated Solutions for Motor Control
NXP S32M portfolio, based on our system-in-package (SiP) design, integrates high-voltage analog functionalities with a robust embedded MCU (S32K Arm® Cortex®-M4/M7 series core). Backed by our trusted S32 compute platform, S32M provides functional safety (embedded security compliant to ASIL B levels), fosters compatibility with proprietary and third-party software and tools ecosystem and it is supported by our automotive longevity program for at least 15 years of production.
S32M offers scalability, high-performance for streamlined control of BLDC and PMSM motors used for in-vehicle applications such as pumps, fans, sunroofs, seat positioning, seat belt pretensioners, trunk openers and more. Enhanced with diagnostic capabilities, the portfolio simplifies edge node design, ensuring rapid deployment for OEMs and Tier 1s.

What is the relationship between S32K MCUs and S32M2 integrated solutions?
S32M2 builds on the broad family of S32K MCUs, their tools and software by taking select MCUs from that portfolio and co-packaging them with an analog die that supports 12V power management, communications at the physical layer (CAN FD, LIN or CXPI) and the MOSFET gate drivers (6 channels).
The combination of the 2-in-one package creates a compact, simple-to-use motor control solution for brushless DC (BLDC) and permanent magnet synchronous (PMSM) motors.
What are the target motor control applications for S32M2?
S32M2 is optimized to support 12V BLDC and PMSM motor control when adding the motor and power MOSFETS primarily. Typical applications are in the automotive body and comfort application space (window lift, seat position, door closure, sunroof, air circulation) plus pumps and compressors.
The breadth of the portfolio as well as the ASIL B capability and security elements mean the portfolio of S32M2 products are well suited to a platform approach of motor control solutions.
Can S32M2 be used with brushed DC motors or other automotive and industrial applications?
Yes, with its compact size and independent control of the gate drivers, S32M2 can support up to 3 brushed motors, further extending its reach into a motor control platform of solutions. Additionally, the drivers can be used in non-motor control applications, like to drive heating elements in seating, for example.
Can S32M2 be used in applications requiring compliance with functional safety standards?
Yes, S32M2 was developed according to ISO 26262:2018 and is intended to be used as safety element out of context (SEooC) in systems targeting an automotive safety integrity level (ASIL) B.
The mutual observation of a proven microcontroller from the S32K MCU device family by an analog device inhibits many common cause failures that may occur in a single semiconductor die, facilitating remote solutions having a small footprint without impacting related functional safety aspects.
Does S32M2 provide any security elements?

S32M27x offer a HSM solution called HSE hardware security engine: AES-128/192/256, RSA4096, ECC521, secure boot and key storage; ISO 21434 intended and including the NXP Security Firmware.
