secureBMS is a secure battery management system (BMS) solution designed to protect, authenticate and manage battery
data across the entire lifecycle. Built on a high-voltage battery management system (HV-BMS) architecture that
combines a microcontroller (MCU) with a certified Secure Element (SE), secureBMS enables tamper‑resistant data
storage, secure software updates and cryptographic authentication. These capabilities support secure digital twinning
of physical batteries with a cloud‑based battery passport.
The integrated Secure Element protects sensitive data, enables secure cloud connectivity and supports Near-Field
Communication (NFC)‑based access—even when the system is unpowered. The NXP secureBMS applet is preinstalled, helping
accelerate customer design‑in and simplify system integration. This approach has been demonstrated in customer
projects, including collaborations with TNO that began in 2025.
As requirements for battery lifecycle monitoring and traceability continue to evolve, secureBMS helps manufacturers
prepare for compliance with emerging regulations. For example, the EU Battery Regulation, which comes fully into
effect in 2027, requires secure storage and transmission of sensitive battery data—capabilities that are foundational
to the secureBMS ecosystem.
