The 5Gbps, multi-protocol Q-5™ Traffic Management Coprocessor (TMC), when combined with Our C-5®e™ and C-3e™ Network Processors (NPs), enables you to implement a comprehensive QoS management solution. The Q-5 TMC provides support for virtually any protocol, including IP, Frame Relay, ATM, Ethernet, Packet over SONET (PoS), enabling QoS management functions to be applied to virtually any traffic type up to OC-48 bandwidths. With the Q-5 TMC you can implement very high density (128k) per-flow and/or per-Virtual Channel (VC) queuing and fine-grained traffic shaping for a wide range of both packet-based and cell-based applications. Its flexible three-level scheduling hierarchy enables you to support a vast array of services, including deep channelization and
integrated multicast elaboration.
The Q-5 TMC gluelessly connects to the C-5e and C-3e NP for a seamless integration of QoS management into the forwarding path. QoS configurations, such as active queue management, policing and shaping, statistics collection
parameters, and scheduling of flows, are programmed using QoS APIs. These APIs also make it possible to modify QoS configurations for real-time service provisioning and reprovisioning. The high level of integration among
the C-Port(tm) family of processors and the common and easy to use programming environment enables you to get to market more quickly with next-generation services.
