European eCall Trial

If you ever find yourself in a car accident in Europe, eCall could make the difference between life and death. The eCall emergency system automatically sends vital data including the exact GPS coordinates of the accident scene from your car to local emergency operators, reducing the time it takes emergency rescue services to arrive by 40 to 50 percent. The European Commission estimates that eCall could save up to 2,500 lives a year across Europe, mitigate the severity of tens of thousands of accidents, and save an estimated €26 billion a year. The pan-European eCall Trial conducted by NXP^® and its partners in November 2010 was a landmark event that raised public awareness for eCall, proving that the technology is ready and that there is strong industry support for making eCall a reality.
