NXP offers a wide portfolio of LCD drivers specifically designed to drive Vertical Alignment or VA displays.
When compared to traditional Twisted Nematic, or TN displays, VA displays have a deeper black background which offers a much higher contrast ratio between the characters and the background.
VA displays also allow a wider viewing angle and better image quality at extreme temperatures.
This new breakthrough display technology is particularly well suited for applications where the display is exposed to sunlight, mounted on a black background, or located sideways from the viewer, making them an ideal choice for many applications, including automotive, white goods, home, and medical equipment design.
However, VA display technology does have additional requirements for higher LCD supply voltage and higher frame frequency, depending on the specific LCD manufacturer and the multiplex rates used in each application. NXP's latest generation LCD drivers meet the strictest VA display requirements in the industry.
The current line of NXP LCD drivers are pin-to-pin compatible with their respective predecessors, but deliver higher voltage and frame frequency than ever before. NXP customers can quickly and easily upgrade their existing NXP LCD drivers with these new devices with little to no hardware and software changes.
