What You Can Do with Sensor Data Analytics, from Babies to Horses

This week the MEMS Industry Group is showcasing five finalists in the MEMS and Technology showcase at the MEMS Executive Congress US in Napa, California.

We’re thrilled that two innovations that use our sensors are on the short list, which are testaments to the power ofSensor Data Analytics. (Read more on “Mining sensor data.”)

Horse Sense Shoes use a combination of accelerometers, magnetometers and air pressure sensors to detect abnormal changes in movement and vitals in horses to better understand equine health.

Non-invasive microsensors provide continuous bio monitoring for early detection of laminitis, fever, colic and even foaling.

Every reading is sent over the cloud to the monitoring platform, providing easy access for analysis by the owner or veterinarian.

This highly sophisticated wearable for horses using MEMS sensors can also be adapted for other animals to complete similar functions.

This type of breakthrough technology, effectively gives a voice to the horse or ruminant fitted with the sensor; giving the owner the opportunity to learn about the animal’s behavior and so understand the warning signs before something goes wrong.

The Smart Baby Monitor from MonBaby is an award-winning wireless sleep sensor and analyzer for babies. It tracks your baby’s breathing movement, activity level and sleep position and transmits vital signs and alerts directly to your smartphone.

It sends raw data measured by Freescale’s MMA8451Q MEMS 14-bit accelerometer over Bluetooth™ 4.0. The sensor is powered by a 3 V coin-cell battery providing five weeks of constant use and up to one year of use in passive mode. The antenna range is 200 feet, which covers most homes.
