The NXP Cup EMEA, challenges students to design, build, and program intelligent autonomous vehicles using NXP technology. Open to students aged 14 and above, the competition brings together future engineers from across EMEA to develop real-world skills in embedded systems, control, computer vision, and autonomous navigation. Teams progress through qualification events for the chance to compete in the NXP Cup EMEA Finals and earn recognition among EMEA's top robotics talent.

Engineering Challenges for Autonomous Systems

The NXP Cup challenges teams to build and program autonomous vehicles that navigate independently using robotics, AI, and embedded systems.

Autonomous Navigation Challenge​

Guide your robot through an unknown track using computer vision, sensing and real-time decision-making. Speed, reliability and adaptability are key. ​

Precision Control Challenge​

Demonstrate complete control by automatically slowing down, stopping and positioning your robot with maximum accuracy.

From 250 Teams to Milan: The NXP Cup 2026 Finals

The NXP Cup 2026 season reached its peak in Milan — for the first time bringing the Finals to Italy. Out of more than 250 registered teams, the top 17 competed head-to-head in a high-energy finale. Romania secured first place with an outstanding performance.

For Constantin-Dumitru-Petre, three years in the NXP Cup meant building and continuously improving a project from the ground up while developing real-world engineering skills. Beyond the technical experience, the competition fostered meaningful connections with fellow students and created lasting memories throughout his university journey.

FAQs

Who can participate? ​

The NXP Cup is open to students interested in autonomous mobile robotics, embedded systems, and AI. Participants range from high school students to PhD candidates, with teams often formed through schools, universities, or other academic institutions.

How many team members are allowed? ​

Teams can consist of 1 to 3 students, allowing participants to compete individually or collaborate in small teams.

Do I need previous robotics experience? ​

No. The NXP Cup is designed to provide hands-on learning opportunities for both beginners and experienced students.

What hardware is required?

Teams build their vehicles using the official NXP Cup platform and supported NXP evaluation boards, as outlined in the developer resources and GitBook. Supported boards include options such as the S32K144-Q100, FRDM i.MX93, and MCXN947.

Is participation free?

Participation in the NXP Cup is free of charge. However, teams or their educational institution are responsible for covering certain expenses, such as hardware and travel costs for qualification events. Teams that qualify for the finals receive complimentary accommodation and meals during the event, as well as a €200 travel voucher to help offset travel expenses.

How do qualifications work?​

Teams compete in regional qualification events, with top-performing teams advancing to the finals.

Are there other NXP CUP Events?​

Yes. The NXP Cup is a global competition with events and qualifying rounds held across multiple regions worldwide.

Can participants under 18 join?​​

Yes. Participants under the age of 18 are welcome to join the NXP Cup. However, each underage participant must be accompanied by a team coordinator who is at least 18 years old and is responsible for supervising the team throughout the competition.
