This demo showcases Matter 1.4.2 and its new support for Wi-Fi-only commissioning reducing cost and complexity for devices where Bluetooth Low Energy is not needed for the application itself. For example, large appliances such as washers and dryers that have Wi-Fi already implemented for internet connectivity but not Bluetooth LE.
Wi-Fi commissioning is implemented with Wi-Fi’s new feature, Unsynchronized Service Discovery, that uses a light-weight device-to-device service discovery and message exchange mechanism without relying on device synchronization. In this demonstration, we’re using two i.MX 93 FRDM boards, each equipped with the IW612 tri-radio wireless chip. One board acts as the Matter controller, featuring the chip-tool web interface. The other serves as a Matter On-Off end device, with only Wi-Fi enabled for this demo.
