Reinventing CAN for the Autonomous Car and Industrial Applications
The TJA146x series actively improve CAN signals to ensure robust communication in large networks and at faster bit rates. Signal ringing, an artifact of large, complex networks with unterminated stubs, is dramatically reduced, removing previous limitations in network topologies. Even lower specification cabling solutions or removal of external ferrites can be considered.
The TJA146x CAN FD series achieve significantly faster bit rates than conventional transceivers thanks to a highly symmetrical transmitter, ensuring very accurate bits are reliably generated on the bus. With much tighter control over the transmitted signal, faster and shorter bit times can be guaranteed—enabling acceleration of bit rates beyond 5 or even 8 Mbps.
NXP's signal improvement technology series are available as pin-compatible replacements to conventional HS-CAN transceivers, allowing simple upgrades for existing designs and backward compatibility, fulfilling the ISO 11898-2:2016 specification. The TJA146 series fully embody the CiA601-4 2.0.0 specification.
CAN transceiver with standby mode which is part of the TJA146x transceiver family that implements CAN signal improvement capability (SIC) as defined in CiA 601-4.
CAN transceiver with sleep mode which is part of the TJA146x transceiver family that implements CAN signal improvement capability (SIC) as defined in CiA 601-4.
Our brand new CAN SIC technology gives the latest generation of CAN FD networks a significant boost by expanding the network size and accelerating achievable data rates.
The CAN SIC demonstrator shows the comparison of classical CAN transceivers and NXP’s latest CAN SIC technology, which actively reduces the signal ringing in a network. This helps operate larger topologies at bit rates significantly faster than before (reaching 5 Mbps and up to 8 Mbps). The best part is, CAN SIC transceivers are a simple and direct replacement of existing CAN (FD) transceivers, making the adoption of this technology straight-forward and without significant changes in the application. They follow CiA601-4 specifications.
